Just when we were beginning to think hip hop and going to college were mutually exclusive, Mr. Nasir Jones (a.k.a Nas) pulls a fast one. The rap heavy-weight has apparently made an impression with Harvard, as the IV League school launched a fellowship in his honor. The Nasir Jones Hip Hop Fellowship, funded by the Hip-Hop Archive and W.E.B. Du Bois Institute, will be awarded to scholars and artist that have an aptitude and creativity for art–more concisely art related to Hip-Hop. If that doesn’t encourage future rappers to stay in school, how about this: One of the hottest rappers today, J.Cole graduated magna cum laude, from New York’s St. Johns University–a school that he attended on an academic scholarship.
